A business license is required of all businesses and in-home businesses operating within city limits, including temporary activities and contractors with offices located outside of the city. Our business licenses are effective for a calendar year; license will remain effective until December 31st of the same year it was issued. However, the state mandated fee cannot be waived. Therefore, even those exempt businesses will begin to see the $1 fee on their business license renewal forms beginning January 1, 2018.
As of January 1, 2021, Assembly Bill 1607 (AB1607), aimed at preventing gender-based discrimination, mandates that cities issuing business certificates must furnish businesses with written notices of AB1607's requirements when the certificate is issued or renewed. AB1607 stipulates that certain businesses must conspicuously display written signage and clearly list the prices for each standard service offered.
